2007 Acura MDX

While Acura claims the vehicle shown (above) is merely a concept, it bears a strong resemblance to the second-generation MDX SUV which is claimed to hit dealerships sometime in the Fall. The concept is a complimentary design of Honda's California studio and also seems to be shaped with the mindset of sharp, yet sleek.

Acura's concept also gets a wider stance and longer wheelbase, along with 20-inch wheels, to provide more interior room and additional style over the current MDX model available. The Honda child's hopes are to skip ahead of competition subtly, but to also maintain the element of mystery; it's not for certain this concept is set for production.

No further details were released by Acura's executives about the potential launch this Fall, but Honda insiders have leaked details about an upgraded powerplant-the larger (300hp) 3.8 liter V6, found in the RL sedan, will likely be selected.

The Bottom Line
Will a redesign make the MDX that much different from its competition? The SUV market as a whole is subject to further scrutiny (fuel concerns), so the Acura organization has its work cut out for it. A facelift and increased power may not be enough to contend with market forces, but for Honda's sake, we'd better hope so.
