For ten generations, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has been ripping up rally courses, road tracks, and streets in Japan. After many years of begging, Mitsubishi finally brought the car over to the American shores in 2003. Americans have been buying the Evolutions year after year, and Mitsubishi has just released the latest pictures of its next offering, the Evolution X.
First things first, we want to know about horsepower. Well, upgrades for the X include an all aluminum engine with more horsepower. The aluminum block helps to offset the weight problem associated with an all wheel drive car like the Evolution. A re-tuned six speed gearbox puts the power to the pavement with a paddle shift setup reminiscent of the F1 cars we know and love.
Arguably one of the most important features of the Evolution is its race tuned suspension setup. The Evo X will be no slouch on the race track with its improved suspension components and better brakes. Looking for that go kart feel? Search no further. The previous generation Evolution has been known to hang with a Lamborghini Murcelago on the race track. Thats right, a $30,000 four door.
With a legacy as decorated as the Evo's, it is no surprise that each model gets better and better. The X should be quite a thrill to drive, as its turbocharged, all wheel drive setup makes for great fun on the street. Just rev it up, dump the clutch, and go. Rinse, repeat. Stay tuned to RPM Planets for more great sports sedans, and stay tuned as we see how the new Evolution X fares against the new Subaru WRX. |
