It's been 3 years since the Acura division produced any cars that carried the Type-S badge. That wait is all but over now, as Acura will be re-introducing the Type-S into the 2007 TL line up. Previous generations of the Type-S line included the TL and CL. This time around only the TL is in production, but you have a choice of a 6 speed manual gearbox or a 5 speed automatic with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters when you check the option box for Type-S. Power comes from a 3.5L V6 that makes 286 horsepower and 256 lb-ft of torque. The base TL comes with a 3.2L V6 that will propel the car to 60MPH (from a stop) in the low-7 second range.

The 2007 TL sees little changes, inside and out, to an almost perfect design. A few tweaks to the front and rear fascia are evident. The interior looks similar to the existing model: changes include new fonts on the instrument cluster, a new steering wheel (with common controls.) For those lucky enough to purchase the Type-S, the navigation becomes standard and the interior lights are tinted red. If there is one thing holding the new TL back, it would be the FWD platform verses a RWD setup. Regardless of that, the TL Type-S is about as good as it gets for FWD performance & luxury.
