You probably remember a bright green hot rod from SEMA 2006. It was wild, crazy, but most importantly, looked like it had been put together by one of the most talented show car builders in the world. The all new Foose Coupe, designed by the one and only Chip Foose, will go into a limited production of just 50 cars and will be sold by Unique Performance.
The Foose Coupe is quite an amazing car. With the looks of a hot rod and the performance of a race car, the Foose Coupe is sure to please whoever is lucky enough to own one of the 50 cars being produced. The cars are to be manufactured at MetalCrafters, Inc out of California, and each car will receive the same meticulous attention that each of Chip's cars receives.
The owner of the car can choose between a supercharged 5.4 liter Ford engine, or a 6.4 liter Chrysler Hemi engine. Each engine is sure to provide plenty of thrills as the car weighs only 2300 pounds. With a horsepower rating of 600 horsepower, it is easy to see that the Foose Coupe was not only designed with looks in mind. Each horsepower is only responsible for carrying 3.9 pounds, a ratio that is almost unbelievable in vehicles these days. Most Ferrari's and Lamborghini's have a 6 pound per horsepower ratio, which is nothing to frown about in itself. The power is put to the pavement by a transaxle pulled from a BMW M1.
Hotchkis Suspension was asked to design a suspension to make the Foose Coupe handle like it was on rails, and as far as we can tell, it is Mission: Accomplished. Not only does it handle amazingly, it just looks great having all of the suspension components showing like a classic hot rod from the 50's and 60's. Huge 20 inch by 12 inch wide wheels fill the fenderwells and give the Coupe a modern, yet tasteful look.
Huge 14 inch, six piston calipers allow the 600 horsepower car to come to a halt in a hurry. With a weight of only 2300 pounds, the stopping force must be almost retina-detaching. The featherlight weight comes from a full carbon fiber body.
A perfect example of how technology is completely changing the automotive industry. 40 years ago, if you told someone you could go out and buy a 600 horsepower car that weighed 2300 pounds, got 20 miles per gallon, and didnt have to tune a carburetor, they would have probably laughed at you. Chip Foose set out to build a sophisticated, yet awesome hot rod, and it appears he has accomplished his goal.
Stay tuned to RPM Planets for more awesome hot rods.
