Ford showed off its latest offering to the concept world recently at the New York Auto Show. Its body shape seems to be a cross between the Expedition and an LTD station wagon from the 80s. Styling doesn't seem to play as much of a role as functionality in today's car buying world, so Ford shouldn't have a hard time selling the Flex if they decide to produce it due to all the great features it provides.
The Flex actually looked sharp in its tri-tone paint scheme. Huge chrome wheels make it pop on stage, and viewers see a familiar grill and front end. Safety is the name of the game with the Flex, as it features Roll Stability Control (RSC), front and side airbags, a special "Safety Canopy" side airbag that protects all three rows of seating, as well as a rear back up camera. The doors have been reinforced with side intrusion beams, and the body is designed to be very rigid.
As stated earlier, the Flex is aimed at functionality, and has many unique features aimed at the modern family. The coolest of these features has to be the optional in car refrigerator that can cool seven cans of soda to 41 degrees in only two and a half hours. This is perfect for the family road trip which usually isn't complete with at least two 10 minute drink stops every 100 miles. To keep the kids entertained, the Flex utilizes a drop down 8 inch LCD tv with a DVD player. However, parents shouldn't worry, Ford thought of you as well. A touch screen navigation system and Sirius satellite radio should keep you occupied while you enjoy the peace and quiet provided by the DVD player. One other unique feature is the multi-panel glass roof that allows you to look at the stars without stepping out of the vehicle.
The Ford Flex seems to be the perfect family vehicle. Safety, entertainment, and nourishment all in one package. What more could a mother ask for in a vehicle. Ford hopes the public feels as good about the Flex as they do. Stay tuned to RPM Planets for more information on the Flex and other cool concept cars.
