The FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) division, inside Ford of Australia marked the anniversary of the original Ford Falcon GT (click each image for hi res) by crafting a one-of-a-kind 200-car limited edition. This FPV Falcon GT40 (40th Anniversary Edition) has the Boss 290 (5.4L V8) powerplant as a starting point. 290, you ask? 290ci definitely doesn't equate to 5.4 liters of displacement--it's the measurement of kilowatts output by the engine. How about 390 horsepower and 383 pounds of rotational force? I thought you might like that!

The same rear-wheel drive platform is found in the FPV Falcon GT40 as the standard Falcon GT. What's unique, however, is that this 40th anniversary edition has an R-Spec suspension beneath, developed by Prodrive, to dramatically improve performance at the track without compromising the requirements of normalcy found in daily excursions about the highways.

Each Falcon GT40 is lacquered black, with a gilded stripe package (much akin to the Hertz flavored Ford Mustang), GT 40th Anniversary decals aft of the front wheels, "BOSS 290" on the hood's power bulge, R-Spec badging on the rear end, and 19" alloy rims (with red Brembos peering between the wheel spokes) trimmed in black.

There are many refined and tasteful touches to this fantastic Ford sedan, including an FPV logo that's part of the lower grille and doorways. The Aussie's have a sure hit here, and there's not one doubt that this car would sell in mass-quantities stateside. But wait, we have the Five Hundred, errr....Taurus to look forward to, don't we? Oh, well. The steering wheel is mounted on the wrong side anyway. |
