In "The Way Forward", Ford announces what can only be described as redundant information to the masses.
1. The Ford GT will be discontinued.
2. The SVT Adrenalin will not be produced
3. The Lincoln LS will be discontinued.
Now, I am going to go out on a limb here and just come out and say it ... DUH!
The Ford GT was already slated to be discontinued after next year having fulfilled the 3 year run we were all promised. It had already been determined that it would not pass the strict federal regulations due to take effect in 2008 and rumor has been circulating that the Shelby GR-1 would be built with the same tooling and replace the GT as Ford's halo car. The only news this leaves us is the possibility that there will be no Shelby GR-1.
The SVT Adrenalin: What can I say? Two years ago, SVT dangled a carrot in front of their loyal followers with a New Lightning Concept that was supposedly going into production at the same time as the then SVT Cobra (Now the GT500). It was "put on hold" to concentrate efforts on the Ford GT and GT500. It is unlikely that the Lightning will see the light of day any time within the next 3 years or more. So why would they even consider building the Adrenalin after Ford bean counters had already announced that it would cost too much to develop the Lightning?
The Lincoln LS: Now this one really drives me crazy. It has been common knowledge for the better part of a year that 2006 would mark the last year for the LS. As a matter of fact, the MKS concept car is supposed to represent what the replacement for the LS will possibly look like.
This writer fails to see how the discontinuation of two cars that were going to be discontinued anyway, coupled with discontinuing a car they likely had no real intention of building holds any relevance to helping the company move forward. |
