Hopefully we are finally seeing what we have all been begging Ford to do for years. The Ford Falcon, a four door sedan with a performance based V8 or Inline 6 engine. In the world of 400 hp Hemi sedans and the upcoming Pontiac G8, Ford is going to be left in the dust unless they produce something to compete. Australians have been driving the Falcon sedans for quite a few years, and they have proven that they are a competitive sports sedan. We hope Ford decides to give the US a crack at them, we think it would be a very profitable situation for all parties. Especially the drivers...
In Aussie land, the Falcon is available in many variants, including three performance minded models. The XR6, XR6 Turbo, and the XR8, which feature the inline 6 engine in the XR6 and the 5.4 liter V8 in the XR8. There is also a model offered by the FPV division, which is basically the Australian version of SVT, called the Boss 290. This model features a six speed transmission and 389 hp. The heavy four door gets to sixty in 5.7 seconds, and does the quarter in 14.7 seconds. Quite the grocery getter.

Only time will tell Ford's true plan for the sedan, but in the meantime, we will sit and hope that Ford decides to deliver what the people want. Stay tuned to RPM Planets for more news on the Falcon sedan. |
