Ford's 3 Pace Cars - removing covers

Ford Motor Company is serving up three new "championship-level" 2007 vehicles to pace three Ford Championship weekend races at Homestead-Miami Speedway: the Ford Shelby GT500, the Ford Edge, a the Ford F-150 FX2 Sport. Dan Davis (Director of Ford Racing Technology), Curtis Gray (President Homestead-Miami Speedway), and Matt Kenseth (2003 Nextel Cup Champion & 2006 contender) teamed up for the ceremonial unveiling before NASCAR testing began at the track.

Everyone seems to have some knowledge of the Shelby GT500, but might not know the Ford Edge and F-150 FX2 quite as well. The Ford Edge will be the first crossover utility vehicle (CUV) to pace a NASCAR event, the Ford 300 Busch Series. Taking on a completely new design, the Edge captures an audience with exotic features and style, such as its panoramic Vista Roof, roll stability control, a safety canopy air curtain system, an MP3 player jack, and laptop storage inside the center console.

The cargo box-sporting participant in this scene, as you may have guessed, is the F-150 FX2 Sport; the latest flavor in the F-Series lineup, that is well poised to capstone its 30th consecutive year as the best selling pickup. The FX2 Sport package is an option for 4X2 SuperCab and SuperCrew XLT editions, and exhibits a dark accent billet-style grille insert with body color grille surround, unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, available 20-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, fog lamps, unique captain's chairs with center console and floor-mounted shifter, and a body color front bumper, rear bumper, door and tailgate handles.

All three vehicles have been equipped for pace car duties with special decal packages and light bars.

"We wanted to select championship level production vehicles to pace the Ford Championship Weekend, and we picked three of the best," said Davis, during the announcement. "When you talk about vehicles that combine bold design and the kind of performance needed to lead the NASCAR field on track, these three vehicles are the place to start."
