Ford Tri-Flex V10

Last week Ford's Dearborn engine facility started production on their first Hydrogen burning Internal Combustion Engine. It is based on the supercharged V10 engine from the Ford Super Chief concept that was capable of running on gasoline, E85 or Hydrogen. The new V10 will produce almost zero emissions and only discharge water from its exhaust.

Currently, power output (naturally aspirated) is limited at only 235HP and 310ft/lbs of torque, but at least this is a start. These Hydrogen-specific V10's are slated for developmental use in a fleet of E-450 shuttle buses. Built from the parts bin the only changes are: Valves and seals, spark plugs and ignition coils, fuel injectors & rail, damper, pistons, head gaskets and the intake manifold. Ford did not comment on how the drivers would be refueling, but it will not be as common as it is now.
