Ford GTX1

British television personality Jeremy Clarkson, who is most well known for his automotive journalism on BBC's Topgear has recently released another personal DVD documenting his comparisons of American and European automobiles. Known for his provocative comments and bias toward European auto manufacturers, remarkably, the Ford GTX1 scored another "sensational" review.

Unveiled at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, Kip Ewing, an engineering supervisor for Ford's Special Vehicle Team, conceived of a roadster design while working on the Ford GT launch. Inspired by the 1966 Sebring winning Ford GTX1, Ewing developed initial design sketches on his own time, and eventually modified a 1:18 scale Ford GT to win over the privilege to bring the concept to life.

The Ford GTX1's most impressive innovative feature is its configurable roof. The roof system consists of four individual hard panels, which can be configured as a coupe, t-top, or full convertible. The panels are painted in the same OEM color so it does not lose any of its design appeal, and they are easily stored within the vehicle for easy access.

So what does Clarkson have to say about the Ford GTX1? Clarkson notes with the upgraded Alloy wheels, Brembo Brakes, Borla Exhaust, Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires, adjustable coil overs makes the Ford GTX1 a "properly brilliant car". While test driving the GTX1, Clarkson defines the sound from the "free breathing exhaust" as an assault on the ears at a force of a category seven hurricane. The lack of a roof creates the feeling of a category nine hurricane messing with your hair style. While not knowing how the Ford GTX1 would react on the street, on the track Clarkson leaves off with calling it sensational concludes with "as good as anything "I've ever driven".
