The Mazdaspeed3 performance says Zoom-Zoom. The zippy, retagged MPS shares its 2.3 liter turbocharged engine with the Mazdaspeed6, but slightly detuned. Rumors put the power output near 250bhp, which should propel the 3 to near six second 0-60 times. This makes the Mazdaspeed3 one of the most powerful sports compacts with FWD configuration.

A newly design limited-slip differential paired with the same 6-speed manual transmission found in the Mazdaspeed6, give the driver more control of the engines power with predictable results. Add that to the specially tuned suspension and the result is a solid foundation for the high output engine. To halt the vehicle, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS are standard. Also standard equipment is an emergency brake assist function and dynamic stability control (DSC) to provide control during high speed maneuvers.
