Showing its goal of revamping the company, Ford Motor Company is giving Mercury a facelift. Now targeting women and minorities, Mercury aims to get drivers who would normally not even consider a blue oval product, into the driver's seat. In the past, Mercury vehicles have been very similar in appearance and build to the Ford counterparts, but now Ford states they will carry an appearance all of their own. They have downsized their lineup, and introduced the new Mariner and Mariner Hybrid.

The newly redesigned Mariner, which will be unveiled at the South Florida International Auto Show, features brand new front and rear fascias, grills, headlights, and trim. The body has been smoothed out using cleaner looking body panels. Inside, the car features a cool new, blue colored dash, chrome accents, and satin trimmings. The center console has been made more user friendly, and the new Mariner will feature a much quieter cabin volume. Realizing the stress on safety, Ford has made side curtain airbags and stability control standard features on the new Mariner. Potential buyers can chose between two or four-wheel drive, and even a Hybrid option to increase fuel economy. |
