Another very interesting concept coming out of the 2006 Paris Motor Show is Chevrolet's WTCC Concept. For those of you who dont know what WTCC [World Touring Car Championship] actually is; think of the NASCAR racing series. Then imagine NASCAR using a truly stock car based mainly on a vehicle from the showroom that turns left and RIGHT competing with other factory based machines. This is a highly popular racing series in Europe therefore, the Chevrolet WTCC Concept is a car destined for sale only in Europe. However, this little car is cool enough that we wanted to share it with you.
The body is made form a mixture of Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass to keep the weight down, which in turn would keep the track times low as well. The lighter body would help in handling and stopping on the track. The other reason for a non-sheet metal skin is the relatively low output 2.0L common rail diesel engine that generates a smallish 190 horsepower. Despite the smallish output from the engine compartment, the WTCC Concept is one cool looking ride. The inside is tastefully done to complement the exterior shape and GM claims that this car is ready to be driven and driven hard. Its just too bad that this car is only a Concept at the moment and that its only destined for sale in Europe.
