With all the hype surrounding the latest street monster from Chevrolet,
many names have been unofficially tossed around. Referred to as the Blue Devil, Corvette SS
and the Z07, the fender badge of the upcoming supercar will now officially read
ZR1, per Motor Trends Todd Lassa.
If the ZR1 name sounds familiar, it should. The history of the ZR1 started life as an option
for the Chevrolet Corvette in 1971. The name was
later revived in 1990 for a Lotus-designed 32 valve DOHC V8 power plant for the
Corvette. This was the first year ZR1
specific badging was introduced, however the latest ZR1 name will be the first
without the hyphen, as in ZR-1.
Slated for release in 2009, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will
sport the 6.2-Liter LS3 engine with a purported supercharger, boosting the
already stout V8 from 430HP to the 650HP ballpark. Expect to see the new ZR1 badges on its first official appearance at the January 2008 Detroit show car. |
