It's the news we've all been waiting for. After so much speculation, spy shots, and hype, the Corvette SS, or "Blue Devil" has been confirmed by Bob Lutz of General Motors. The SS, known as GMX245-SSC around the factory, will be debuted at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.

With the 2008 Dodge Viper bringing a 600 horsepower 8.4 liter engine to the table, it was only a matter of time before Chevy upped the ante with a new Corvette. There is still much speculation, but the popular choice on engines is a supercharged version of the LS2, also found in the Cadillac V-Series cars. It will definitely be sporting over 600 horsepower, and the upgrades will certainly not only be left for the engine bay. Expect better suspension, brakes, and exterior upgrades as well with the SS package.
No word yet on pricing, but expect it to be more than the Corvette Z06, most likely a similar price to the Dodge Viper. However, for those that just can't stand for a Dodge to be in front, it will be well worth the cost. Stay tuned to RPM Planets for more news on the SS Corvette as we get closer to 2008. |
