2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Chevrolet has taken the wraps off the completely redesigned Malibu. From the pictures (each image is linked to a hi res version) you see here, the redesign was a huge success. Visually, the car is sleeker, more refined and even more inviting to look at when compared to the model it will replace. The Malibu wears a new corporate grille and headlights that appear similar to the recent Cobalt. A metallic band dominates the lower side of the car, and the trunk finishes nicely. Mechanically, the new Malibu will ride on GM’s Epsilon platform. This is the same platform that supports the Saturn Aura. The wheel base measures 112” and the suspension components should be identical between the Aura and Malibu. Just expect some changes in the suspension calibration to further the brand differentiation. Power options will range from 2.4L 164 horsepower I4 all the way up to the 3.6L V-6 with a paddle shifted 6 speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the changes are even more dramatic between the new and the outgoing model. Gone are the solid surfaces of plain grey plastic and strange looking center stack. Now replaced with a distinct sculpted instrument panel and flowing center stack section. It also looks like the cup holders are hidden under a rolling door behind the shifter – GM appears to have even thought out the small details this time. The car is expected to be at the North American International Autoshow this January. If so, RPM will have new pictures of what appears to be a nice looking Toyota Camry fighter.
