Saying goodbye to the Freelander was a very easy thing for most Americans to do at the beginning of last year. A small SUV that was wildly popular in Europe just did not strike interest into the American car buying public for which it was introduced. Enter the latest small SUV from Land Rover: The LR2. It may look like its bigger brother the LR3 but it really is a smaller version. The engine will face east-west to drive the front wheels most of the time. However, all LR2's will be equipped with the Land Rover variant of AWD [sourced from the Volvo XC90 so the LR2 should handle almost all off road excursions that it is subjected to. Along with the redesign will be the luxury features that one expects from a SUV of this brand: rain-sensing windshield wipers, power leather seats, 18-inch alloys, rear park distance control, two sunroofs (the rear one is stationary) and dual-zone automatic climate control. Expect the new LR2 on the showroom floors early next year. |

Jaguar fans have something to look forward to this month. At the 2006 London Motor Show on July 18, the all-new supercharged XKR coupe and convertible are said to lead the Jaguar experience to new heights. Taking several design cues from the naturally aspirated XK coupe and convertible, the XKR moves up a rung and utilizes many technological improvements as well as its industry-leading aluminum monocoque body structure. The structure of the new XKR is also lighter and stronger than its predecessor model. "The new supercharged XKR captures perfectly the essence of what makes a Jaguar XK so special," commented Bibie Boerio, Jaguar Cars managing director. "It is a perfect combination of refined Grand Tourer and serious performance sports car that delivers a truly rewarding and exhilarating driving experience." |

In keeping up with the demand to get more from less, Ford may be soon offering a more fuel efficient version of the Expedition. It will likely have either the new European V8 diesel or an all-new gasoline-electric hybrid engine. "We have hybrids and diesels under development," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford's group vice president of product development for the Americas. No solid time frame is set for a more efficient Expedition, but internal, unnamed sources at Ford have stated the company may strike soon to compete with the upcoming efficient SUVs being produced by General Motors. Following up on our last story about the Super Chevrolet Corvette, we now have some spy photographs of a pre-production mule caught during early testing. Clearly the biggest difference between the current Z06 and this model is the additional bulge on the hood. That bulge you see is indication that this Corvette doesnt get its fire from a run of the mill 6.2L Z06 motor. In addition to the already superb 500hp 6.2L Z06 motor, GM will add on a supercharger to push overall output up to an estimated 650 grin-inducing horsepower. Planned public introduction of this ultra-performance Corvette is expected in 2008, so get the checkbooks ready. 2008 will be a good year considering the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro will also be introduced. So for all of the people who thought the Ford GT would be the ultimate [affordable] Ferrari beater, GM has a real Ace up its sleeve and they are getting ready to play it. |

Recently, Ford's Customer Service Division completed a study that concluded consumers are highly interested, but are also befuddled about Ford's E85 flex fuel aptitude. Via their website, customersaskford.com, Ford was able to query customers over a six week period and provide over 105,000 questions to consumers. "Basically, there is a lot of confusion out there regarding E85," said Brian McMaster, project manager, Content Governance Center Organization. "What I'm basically saying with the study is that there are some significant information gaps." One of the most common questions asked was how to tell what vehicles are E85 capable. The answer lies in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)--the eighth digit to be precise. Those who may want to know more can visit http://www.e85fuel.com/information/ford.php to have their VIN number decoded. Click here to see the Ford E85 VIN chart |

The next wave of nearly 40% of Ford's pickup sales is now set back until January 2007. Aside from a refreshed design and more refinement within being pushed behind, the bottom line is likely to be affected as well. Some analysts are estimating that the delay is likely to reduce Ford's earnings for this year. This year alone, Ford expects to sell more than 900,000 of the money-making F-Series trucks, making this year the 30th year the F-Series is the best-selling vehicle and 25th year as the best-selling vehicle in the United States. Ford fans have the pleasure of pining for a Shelby GT500. Dodge fans yearn to see the Challenger in production and on the streets. What is Chevrolet doing to up the ante? Well, we told you recently about a new project being worked on and have a little more fuel to add to the fire. The Z06 Corvette is a wonderful platform and its proven 505hp LS7 powerplant is a great starting point. Tom Wallace, Corvette Chief Designer, has a few cards left to play in the horsepower poker match. One of them is a trumping 650hp that is currently referred to as the Z07. Chevrolet has plans to extend the displacement of the current LS7 and bolt on a supercharger to force feed it for a jump of 145hp. The Z07 is slated to come sometime in 2008 as a 2009 model and will be further distinguished from the Z06 by the use of even more carbon fiber body panels and slightly larger hood to deter front-end lift at speed. The Z07 project has been tossed around recently, under the code name Blue Devil and much suggestion points to Z07 or Z06.R being the name of the next bold bowtie beast. Keep up with all the action, if you canwe will let you know when we hear more. |

What a sad day it must be to realize that your 550 horsepower Ford GT seems to become sluggish and weak. The quest for more power is rarely one with a finite end, but the folks at Jack Roush's performance parts group have come up with another stepping stone to assist in the neverending journey for more. A newly released pulley kit for the Eaton supercharger is reported to boost the GT another 25 horsepower and 25 lb/ft of torque. |
