Ford fans have the pleasure of pining for a Shelby GT500. Dodge fans yearn to see the Challenger in production and on the streets. What is Chevrolet doing to up the ante? Well, we told you recently about a new project being worked on and have a little more fuel to add to the fire. The Z06 Corvette is a wonderful platform and its proven 505hp LS7 powerplant is a great starting point. Tom Wallace, Corvette Chief Designer, has a few cards left to play in the horsepower poker match. One of them is a trumping 650hp that is currently referred to as the Z07. Chevrolet has plans to extend the displacement of the current LS7 and bolt on a supercharger to force feed it for a jump of 145hp. The Z07 is slated to come sometime in 2008 as a 2009 model and will be further distinguished from the Z06 by the use of even more carbon fiber body panels and slightly larger hood to deter front-end lift at speed. The Z07 project has been tossed around recently, under the code name Blue Devil and much suggestion points to Z07 or Z06.R being the name of the next bold bowtie beast. Keep up with all the action, if you canwe will let you know when we hear more.
