For those of you with couches not large
enough to scrounge up the $600,000 required for Saleen's mighty S7
supercar, we've got great news for you. Saleen, in conjunction with
ACS, will be introducing a more conservatively priced street racer,
dubbed the Saleen S5S Raptor. The high-powered, high-performance
mid-engine sports car will be powered by a supercharged 5.0 liter
producing 650 horsepower and 630 lb-ft. of torque via enviro-friendly
E85.
In true sports car fashion, the
2-seater chassis is an all aluminum piece wrapped around a six-speed
manual transmission. If going fast and stopping quick is what you'd
like in return for your $185,000, you're in luck. Zero to 60 mph
comes and goes in a mere 3.2 seconds while six-piston calipers and
15-inch front rotors do their part to bring the 20-inch wheels to a sudden halt. By the time the car goes into production in 2010, a
paddle shifted sequential transmission may be available. Until then,
stay tuned to RPM Planets for the latest Saleen news.
