Usually car companies compete with each other to produce the fastest, best handling, and most outrageous performance cars. However, when a company sets the bar, very rarely does it keep trying to raise that bar, when none of the competition has even come close to it. The fact that Aerial produced a car with no body panels and a 300 hp supercharged Honda engine that propels the car to sixty mph in 2.9 seconds, should make it easy to understand why they continue to raise that bar. They are completely and utterly insane. There is no other explanation for the creation of an even faster, more brutal car that is the upcoming Atom 500; but we love it.
The Atom 500 will feature a 2.4 liter V8 engine with 5 valves per cylinder that would make the starting row at an F1 race jealous. And, because there is no help for Aerials condition, why not throw a supercharger on top, just to make things fun. This concoction all comes together to create a monster that makes the Bugatti Veyron seem slow and heavy. At only about 1000 lbs, with 500 hp, you get 1000 hp per ton. The Veyron is only around 500 hp per ton. Did we mention the engine revs to 10,000 rpm? One can only imagine the sheer terror this car will create as you blast through a tunnel, or city street.
The engine will be shifted with a paddle-shift sequential gearbox. A huge rear spoiler attempts to keep the back wheels planted, and the suspension will obviously be tweaked to account for the extra 200 hp. However, the Atom sticks to its bare-bones roots, and only includes the absolute essentials for going around a track as fast as humanly possible. The front windshield is still just an optional extra. We say strap on a helmet, as the windshield only adds extra weight. Stay tuned to RPM Planets and Planet Euro for more amazing cars.
