The previous body style BMW M5 came standard with a close ratio six speed transmission. However, when BMW redesigned the M5 for 2006, they put in a manu-matic type transmission, which, to some, took away from what an M5 really is. The 500 hp V10 engine loves to rev, and automotive enthusiasts want to be in complete control over their vehicle. They asked, BMW listened. The 2007 year model BMW M5 will get the six speed transmission BMW aficionados have been begging for, along with more standard options aimed at keeping the driver completely aware of their vehicle at all times.

The M5 not only receives its six speed transmission, but BMW has also included a new tire pressure monitoring system, which lets drivers know if there is a loss in tire pressure. For a car designed to do upwards of 200 mph on the Autobahn, this is a very important, often forgotten feature. A tire failure at top speed would mean disastrous, often deadly results. BMW has also included a real-time traffic monitoring system that helps drivers choose the most efficient route to their destination without worrying about the traffic.

Arguably the best feature of the new 2007 model is the transmission, but having a reliable manual transmission with 500 horsepower is a hard enough feat in itself, but being a BMW, it has to be comfortable as well. BMW incorporates a hydraulically dampened flywheel mated to a fully forged steel clutch plate. This combination provides a consistent pedal feel and the strength needed to handle business, while also making it comfortable enough to not induce leg cramps each time you drive it.

If you are interested in acquiring an M5 of your own, the base price is now $83,195, but for buyers that have been waiting for the manual transmission, it will be worth every penny. This race bred automobile was made to lead the four door class of luxury automobiles, and with these new features, BMW just might have reached their goal.
