2008 Ferrari F430 Scuderia

Thrown for a loop, yet again, by the folks at Ferrari.  For months now, we've been expecting the Challenge Stradale version of the F430.  We've seen spy shots, received supposed inside information, and had our appetites wetted for the race bred, no manners, bad to the bone, Stradale.  Well, Ferrari called, said they are sorry, but this is something completely different, and that you are more than welcome to file your complaints within, however, one look at the new Scuderia and you'll have nothing to complain about.

You may however, send in a thank you note, for the amazing piece of machinery that they have brought into the automotive world.  The F430 Scuderia has received attention in every possible area.  The engine, drivetrain, suspension, body, and electronics have all been upgraded over the normal F430.

The engine boasts 510 bhp, a 27 hp increase over the base 430.  It sings all the way to 8500 rpm, with a tone only to be rivaled by a pack of banshees.  Ferrari also found a way to lighten the 430 by over 200 pounds, dropping the weight to just 2750 pounds.  The combination of lighter weight and more power should help propel the car to mid 3 second nought-to-sixty times, and with new aerodynamics, may crack the 200 mph mark.  Ferrari also took it upon themselves to improve what most consider one of the best F1 gearboxes ever.  The shifts now take 60 milliseconds to take place, matching the shift speed of Ferrari's 1999 F1 car.  This thing should be a blast to drive.

More power is great, but what good is it if you cant put it to the pavement.  Ferrari thought of this, and has implemented quite a few new systems to aid in handling.  The Scuderia now features the F1-Trac system found on the 599 model, which has proven good for 20% more grip on corner exits.  Also, drivers will notice the change in mode selections on the steering wheel.  There is no longer a "bad weather, low grip" selection.  However, there is now a few new selections at the northern end of the switch.  It is now possible to remove traction control, but retain stability control, and an all out, no holds barred, full race mode, with no assistance at all.

The F430 in its base model is an incredible machine.  It is perfectly capable of competing with most cars on the road today, but that isnt good enough for Ferrari.  With Porsche introducing their new GT3RS and 911 GT2 cars, Ferrari needed an answer.  The F430 Scuderia should do plenty of answering for them.  Our only complaint?  We'll be writing articles until the end of time just to afford one.  Stay tuned to RPM Planets and Planet Euro for more great exotics.
