Introductions of sedans using retractable hardtops just keep making headlines recently. Here you are getting a look at Volkswagen's entry into this emerging market. Available on dealership lots this September for under 30,000 dollars. It's called Eos, fittingly named after the Greek goddess of dawn who gave birth to the wind and stars. The hardtop consists of three pieces that fold neatly into the trunk to create a very nice looking automobile for warm weather cruising. Along with the split personality of the hardtop and convertible, the Eos will also offer a sunroof on the main panel to further confuse people unfamiliar with the car.

The Eos is based off of the Golf V & Jetta. Its power comes from either a 200hp 2.0T FSI or a 250hp 3.2l VR6 FSI. The drive, unlike the Pontiac G6 convertible, seems to be more thought out and refined. Another plus of the Eos is the price. This fun loving, virtually all weather car cost's nearly half of what a Volvo C70 will so the competition should be interesting. Look to the VW dealerships this fall if you are in the market for a retractable hardtop. |
