Mercedes McLaren SLR

Recently the British automotive magazine, Automag, gathered up some of the most recognizable super cars on the face of the planet. You're probably wondering what they did with a Bentley Continental Flying Spur, Ford GT, Corvette Z06, Shelby Daytona Cobra, Porsche 911 Turbo, BMW M6, Alpina B5, and a Vauxhall Maloo. Well they closed down the London City airport and used the runway to see what speed each car would reach after a 1 mile run of course! The results are listed fastest to slowest, below.

  • 1. Mercedes McLaren SLR - 175.7 mph
  • 2. Ford GT - 174.3 mph
  • 3. Corvette Z06 - 167.0 mph
  • 4. Porsche Turbo - 162.6 mph
  • 5. BMW M6 - 162.5 mph
  • 6. Shelby Daytona Cobra - 159.7 mph
  • 7. Alpina B5 - 155.4 mph
  • 8. Bentley Flying Spur - 157.4 mph
  • 9. Vauxhall Maloo - 160.8 mph

This time trial marks the fastest any car has traveled in England legally. A request to the Guinness Book of World records has been submitted to make it official.
