Saab will soon be positioned to join the ranks of manufacturers producing hybrid passenger vehicles. General Motors will also soon have a Europe-designed gasoline-electric hybrid engine available for both Saab and Opel brands.

Saab's 9-5 and 9-3 models are going to be a part of the next-generation hybrid setups. "There are hopes for hybrids to be available in all Saab & Opel vehicles", stated Opel Managing Director, Hans Demant. The target is the end of the decade, but may be reached sooner.
General Motors is working on numerous hybrid projects and could find that the Saab/Opel joint technology would be well suited in other brand lineups already sharing European-designed components, such as Saturn.
