The Kimber group (based in the United Kingdom) has formed an investor and executive brain trust to help resurrect MG sports cars, utilizing Smart (brand) technology. Kimber is seeking a 2007 debut and about 20,000 units are expected to be produced by 2011. Assembly is expected to utilize parts from the old MG TF's (which ended production a year ago).

Founded by Cecil Kimber in 1924, the MG brand is to be refinished and honored with this project. Past press leads from DaimlerChrysler have eluded to Project Kimber containing directives to "redesign, produce and sell the former smart models roadster and roadster-coupe under a different brand" as part of a restructuring and "strategic realignment" of Smart. |
