Top Gear hosts

A recent headline in the United Kingdom’s Sun mentions the infamous automobile enthusiast show Top Gear will be back on the airwaves in the future in spite the contrary stance of the show’s hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.  The BBC claims that Top Gear will return with a summer special and be back in regular seasonal spots come autumn.  That said, at the end of the episode on March 4th, 2007, Clarkson jabbed that “We don’t know when we’ll be back.”

Some of the resentment flowing about could be that production management has expressed the desire to focus more on celebrity highlights during the show and less exposure of cars.  Uh, call us Americans silly, but a show titled “Top Gear” seems to drive one to think automobiles are somehow involved—not cheeky celebrities or blowhard politicians.

So, there you have it—take it with a boulder of salt.  One side (Clarkson) says “no”; the other side (BBC) says “yes”.  I, for one, hope they do return and think that Clarkson and company could strike out on their own venture, given the established fan base in place at present.  People love the show because it is about cars first, people second—not the opposite.
