The Swedes have upped the ante with the latest touches to their flagship sedan. Class competitors such as the Saab 9-5, Mercedes E class, BMW 5 series and Audi A6 have all seen revisions to further their appeal in the luxury segment; now Volvo will make waves as well.

Next generation revisions include the addition of two new gasoline engines; one of which is the borrowed 4.4-liter V8 (from the XC90). The S80 equipped with the newfound V8 will produce 315hp. The remainder of the engine lineup will be rounded out by a well-packaged inline 6-cylinder, the 2.5T 5-cylinder, and two turbo diesels.
Sales are expected to reach the 50,000 mark, as Volvo is forecasting a gain in market share - those who do not currently drive a Volvo may do so soon. Last year, Volvo built over 27,000 S80s, so a production ramp-up is quite evident.

Along with today's standards in luxury, Volvo is also incorporating several safety, personal security, and convenience features into the redesigned S80: collision alerts, windshield displays, and boosted braking to name just a few.
