2009 Cadillac CTS-V

The much anticipated new Cadillac CTS-V has been spotted at the Thunderhill Raceway in California.  It is set to be yet another amazing car from General Motors, who seems to be on a recent power kick, providing amazing performance for modest prices with cars such as the Corvette Z06, the Trailblazer SS, and the upcoming Camaro.

The CTS-V has always been quite a machine.  It seems GM was the only American company brave enough to go after BMW and Mercedes Benz in the quest for the best sports car with a four door body.  The BMW M5 and the array of torque monsters from the boys at AMG and Mercedes seemed to have the market cornered for sports saloons, but in 2004, Cadillac answered the call by stuffing an LS6 motor into a normal CTS.  However, rear end problems plagued the model, and seemed to leave a bad taste in customers' mouths.

However, there has been rumor for months now about a special new CTS-V.  The new generation CTS was unveiled this past year, so of course the V was expected to follow suit.  We just didn't have any idea it would be this good.  Originally rumored to be equipped with an LS7 powerplant, it has now come out that the new V will come with the 6.2 liter LSA V8 engine, topped with a supercharger, and intercooled to produce well north of 500 horsepower.  That's right, the same engine set to debut in the new ZR1 Corvette.  Also, Cadillac spokespeople say that the rear end troubles have been addressed and cured, giving the new CTS-V the potential to really get the attention of BMW and Mercedes Benz.

The original CTS-V was always an amazing looking automobile.  Huge wheels and tires, sporty stance, and tough looking body panels.  The new generation CTS-V lives up to its heritage, but with a meaner, bulkier appearance.  It looks as though the old CTS-V hit the gym twice as hard, as the new CTS has a larger body shape.

This car is sure to rattle some cages.  It is quite impressive to see what Cadillac has put together with this new V.  It will certainly have M5 and AMG owners checking their rear view mirrors more frequently, and if we have our way, checking out the Cadillac's trademark LED brake lights as well.  Stay tuned to RPM Planets for more great sport sedans.
