That’s right, instead of being chased from law enforcement as in “The Dukes of Hazzard”, the new Charger will be the one in hot pursuit! The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is set to buy 15 cruisers to kick off a pilot program this summer. After passing final inspection, this memorable Mopar machine will begin to replace aged members of the fleet, such as Ford Crown Victorias and Chevrolet Impalas.

The highway police division will get the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 equipped version while other models with the V-6 will be dedicated to city streets in NYC’s five major districts. Law enforcement should fare rather well with this Hot Rod convert as it had the fastest 0-60 time (6.52 seconds) and the fastest lap time (150mph) of all its competitors in testing.

Finally, law enforcement agents won’t be left behind in certain critical events, such as chases or responses to emergency calls. 340+ horsepower underneath hood of the car driven by the boys-in-blue is a good thing. Dodge is hoping to capture this important fleet market and make a lasting impression with its revamped setup; if it’s received as well as the consumer version, they are poised for success in this arena as well.
