Super Chevrolet Corvette Spotted Again Print E-mail
Monday, 06 November 2006 Written by Matt Humphries

2008 Corvette Z07

Apparently Chevrolet is wasting no time getting the rumored Super Corvette into production. Another test car was spotted recently near Ann Arbor, Michigan sporting a modified hood to clear the supercharger that was producing the whine. Buyers can expect to receive an intercooled and supercharged 650 hp 6.2 liter V8 for the estimated $100,000 price tag. The Blue Devil, or Z07, or whichever name you prefer should be available in 2008 as a 2009 model with a production number between one and two thousand units per year. Stay tuned to Planet Bowtie and RPM Planets for more information on this wicked automobile.

Chevrolet WTCC Ultima Concept - Front Side

Another very interesting concept coming out of the 2006 Paris Motor Show is Chevrolet's WTCC Concept. For those of you who don’t know what WTCC [World Touring Car Championship] actually is; think of the NASCAR racing series. Then imagine NASCAR using a truly stock car based mainly on a vehicle from the showroom that turns left and RIGHT competing with other factory based machines. This is a highly popular racing series in Europe therefore, the Chevrolet WTCC Concept is a car destined for sale only in Europe. However, this little car is cool enough that we wanted to share it with you.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette Z07 Prototype

Following up on our last story about the Super Chevrolet Corvette, we now have some spy photographs of a pre-production mule caught during early testing. Clearly the biggest difference between the current Z06 and this model is the additional bulge on the hood. That bulge you see is indication that this Corvette doesn’t get its fire from a ‘run of the mill’ 6.2L Z06 motor. In addition to the already superb 500hp 6.2L Z06 motor, GM will add on a supercharger to push overall output up to an estimated 650 grin-inducing horsepower. Planned public introduction of this ultra-performance Corvette is expected in 2008, so get the checkbooks ready. 2008 will be a good year considering the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro will also be introduced. So for all of the people who thought the Ford GT would be the ultimate [affordable] Ferrari beater, GM has a real Ace up it’s sleeve and they are getting ready to play it.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette Z07

Ford fans have the pleasure of pining for a Shelby GT500. Dodge fans yearn to see the Challenger in production and on the streets. What is Chevrolet doing to up the ante? Well, we told you recently about a new project being worked on and have a little more fuel to add to the fire. The Z06 Corvette is a wonderful platform and its proven 505hp LS7 powerplant is a great starting point. Tom Wallace, Corvette Chief Designer, has a few cards left to play in the horsepower poker match. One of them is a trumping 650hp that is currently referred to as the Z07. Chevrolet has plans to extend the displacement of the current LS7 and bolt on a supercharger to force feed it for a jump of 145hp. The Z07 is slated to come sometime in 2008 as a 2009 model and will be further distinguished from the Z06 by the use of even more carbon fiber body panels and slightly larger hood to deter front-end lift at speed. The Z07 project has been tossed around recently, under the code name “Blue Devil” and much suggestion points to Z07 or Z06.R being the name of the next bold bowtie beast. Keep up with all the action, if you can—we will let you know when we hear more.

Chevrolet Suburban Z71

A couple of media shots were recently discovered and released by GMInsideNews. The photos are of the forthcoming Chevrolet Suburban with the Z71 package. This sharp, truck-based SUV dons the appliqué well. The Z71 package will be applied to the Chevrolet Tahoe as well. Some speculation about the GMC Yukon getting this package is also lingering. We'll have to wait for this fall to see for sure and you can trust that RPM Planets will keep you posted.

2007 Chevrolet Silverado

The General’s best selling pickup truck is about to get a replacement. The current Silverado was so popular that it outsold the Ford F-150. Shown above, is a picture of the upcoming 2007 Silverado that should be on sale this fall. GM claims this truck is improved over the model it replaces. As GM is in the middle of a life or death struggle, the GMT-900 [2007 Silverado code name] was pulled ahead by 13 weeks to get the ball rolling with their turn around plan. GM has asked that no specific details of the truck be released until after the official release later next month.

2008 Chevrolet Impala concept

The issue of what concept is next has been resolved. The images shown here are of the next generation Impala, putting to rest the debate of it possibly being the next Chevy Malibu. These sneaky snapshots were taken of the camouflaged white car while it was running on GM's test circuit. Much debate remains what the next flagship sedan will have for a platform underneath when production time comes, as the Zeta platform may soon replace the Australian Holden Commodore.

Chevrolet Corvette Blue Devil Sting Ray

Several GM media contacts have leaked the fact that the supercharged Blue Devil Corvette is no longer holding the name--the project has reportedly taken the classic Sting Ray mark. The $100,000 Sting Ray, well-equipped and housing a 7 liter, 600hp V8 under the carbon fiber hood, is set to be released sometime in 2007.

Super Sleeper Chevy Nova

Keeping up with the "what next?" question, Powertour 2006 has a 1972 Nova sleeper project completed in an attempt to outshine the Silverado SS that runs 11s from last year. The car itself has all the right ingredients: solid body, faded paint, and a tired demeanor...until you pop the hood. Beneath the hood rests a built 402 cubic inch LS-2, fitted with two (that's right, two) Rotrex Superchargers. As if one isn't enough?
