In today's automotive world, huge horsepower numbers, insane torque figures, and quad turbochargers, it is almost funny to hear a horsepower figure like 270. Let's be honest, most minivans and SUVs have more horsepower than that. However, the beauty of power to weight ratio is that it doesn't take much horsepower to achieve amazing acceleration figures, our favorite case being the Aerial Atom. Lotus seems to have mastered the game of affordable power-to-weight monsters, however, with its Elise/Exige lineup. They've raised the bar with the new 270E, making it eco-friendly and able to run off of either methanol, ethanol, or even regular gasoline.

Usually car companies compete with each other to produce the fastest, best handling, and most outrageous performance cars. However, when a company sets the bar, very rarely does it keep trying to raise that bar, when none of the competition has even come close to it. The fact that Aerial produced a car with no body panels and a 300 hp supercharged Honda engine that propels the car to sixty mph in 2.9 seconds, should make it easy to understand why they continue to raise that bar. They are completely and utterly insane. There is no other explanation for the creation of an even faster, more brutal car that is the upcoming Atom 500; but we love it.

Take one part Swedish supercar and about 5 parts carbon fiber - what do
you get? Introducing the all new Koenigsegg Edition lineup. Available in
both the CCX and CCX-R models, the Edition features a sea of raw,
unfinished and fully functional carbon fiber. Under the composite
body, expect the same spleen squashing performance of Koenigsegg's 5.0L
twin supercharged CCX/CCX-R engine. At a minimum of 888 horsepower,
the carbon fiber rocket makes the trip from a standstill to 125 mph and
back to 0 mph in 14 seconds. If you can cover the extra 170,000 euro
price difference, the CCX-R-based 1,018 horsepower propels through the
same benchmarks in 13.7 seconds and tops out 250 mph, 5 mph more than
its lesser-powered sibling. Check out some larger pictures of the Koenigsegg
Edition inside and be sure to read Koenigsegg's official press release as well. |

To say the all new Audi R8 has been a hit would be one of the most drastic understatements of the year. Its sleek lines have earned it a place as one of the sexiest vehicles of all time, and its use of cutting edge technology has made it a fan favorite. Not to disappoint, Audi has prepared one of the coolest concepts to ever hit the floor of the Geneva Motor Show, the Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans edition. |

Let's be honest, it is the age of supercars. Every company has one it seems, and those that don't are busy scheming on how to get into the market, or at least create something that can rival the supercars of today. Names like Chevrolet and Nissan are joining the ranks of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche with cars that everyday Joes like you and I can dream of affording. All without those pesky little monthly visits to the dealership that equate to two or three months of paychecks for some. Audi is no different. They wanted to enter the realm of the supercar, albeit a little more modestly, with the R8. However, no one expected it to be such a hit, such a magnificent feat of engineering, or as awe inspiring as it has turned out to be. All quite possibly the reasons that the R8 was named both Automobile Magazines Auto of the Year, as well as its Design of the year.

The next time you happen to see a Bugatti Veyron flying by
at top speed take note of what may be closing in on it. From the Swedish car manufacturer, Koenigsegg,
comes the tail of a higher level supercar.
A vehicle aimed at not only being the fastest production car, but doing
it with the help of eco-friendly biofuel.
Enter, the Koenigsegg Special Edition CCX-R. This red and black bullet aims to take the crown with a cast-aluminum V8, a pair of twin rotrex centrifugal superchargers and octane-friendly biofuel. Registering an increase of 212 horsepower and 102 lb-ft of torque from the Koenigsegg CCX, total output will be 1,016 horsepower and 780 lb-ft torque. This power output subsequently makes the Koenigsegg CCX-R the first homologated car currently in production to reach over 1000 BHP. Check out larger shots of the CCX-R (click the images to see a close-up) as well as the full press release from Koenigsegg. Be sure to stay tuned to RPM Planets for further news and information. |

Britains
Lotus Elise first made waves after traveling across the pond to hit the
American shores as a revolutionary, small and lightweight sportscar. Their reduced weight and tuned suspension
made them efficient and agile on both the road and track. Lotus 2008 Elise SC aims to push this
envelope even further with the advent of a new non-intercooled supercharged
1.8L engine. Not to be outdone by its
younger brother, the Exige S comes with an available Power Package to boost
both power and drivability. |

H&R has completed many tuner applications over the years, on a
great range of cars. This time around, it's a neat little Fiat 500 that
gets a bit more show added to the shine. With a sport-tuned suspension
that lowers the overall stance of the car by 30mm, adjustable coilovers, wheel
spacers, and a few touches to the outside, the 500 is set to jet now. Exterior treatments helping bolster its
appearance are the addition of a roof-mounted spoiler, a mesh grille, and style
17 wheels provided by eMotion. This cute
little car has turned a bit less friendly and appears better equipped to take
on any urban sprawl. Sadly, the cute cars
window sticker fails to mention the cute female accessory in the photos. |

It is almost funny to sit back and watch the different automotive cliques. In Detroit, automakers are constantly fighting over who makes the most power, who goes the fastest, and who sells for the best value. However, take a trip across the ocean, slip on a custom tailored suit, and climb into you brand new 1 million euro hyper exotic. Power is insignificant; you're driving one of one hundred brand new Lamborghini Reventions. |
